What Is Low Testosterone and What Causes It?

Low testosterone levels are caused by a number of genetic and environmental factors. The two most common factors resulting in lowered levels of testosterone are age and physical fitness. Once you get over the age of about 35, your body naturally produces less testosterone. For some men, this age-related decline in testosterone happens as early as the early 30s or as late as the late 40s.

Physical fitness, however, has even more of an impact on testosterone levels than aging. Since being overweight can greatly reduce the body’s ability to produce testosterone, study after study finds that when men lose weight, they tend to experience a sharp increase in testosterone.

This is particularly true when people achieve a healthier weight by eating a balanced diet and getting enough exercise. Even people who are not overweight are still much more likely to have lower levels of testosterone if they live a sedentary lifestyle.

Some of the other frequently seen causes of low testosterone are:

  • Injuries to the testicles
  • Chronic use of opioid drugs or narcotic painkillers
  • Chronic use of anabolic steroids–past or present
  • Certain medications, including medications for chemotherapy and hair loss
  • Sleep disruptions such as sleep apnea and not getting enough sleep in general
  • Problems with the hypothalamus, pituitary, or thyroid glands

It’s worth noting, too, that men naturally exhibit a wide range of testosterone levels. Anything between about 300 to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter is considered normal.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone

Just as there are many causes of low testosterone, the symptoms of low testosterone are wide-reaching and affect nearly every facet of a person’s physical and mental health.

The most well-known and often discussed symptoms of low testosterone are those related to sexual dysfunction. Specifically, people with low testosterone may experience reduced libido or even a complete lack of sex drive, difficulty getting or keeping an erection, and a low sperm count. While it’s certainly a major area of concern for men who suffer from low testosterone, there are plenty of other undesirable symptoms as well.

Other symptoms of low testosterone include the following:

  • Trouble falling asleep and sleep disorders such as insomnia
  • Difficulty in building and keeping on muscle
  • Decrease in strength or muscle size
  • Beard and body hair becoming more sparse
  • Increase in body fat
  • Lacking the energy to complete daily tasks
  • Decreased mental clarity and a feeling of “brain fog”
  • Depression, moodiness, and anxiety

If you or a loved one are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is recommended that you have an assessment done at a clinic specializing in low testosterone. This type of clinic is often called a low-T clinic or low-T center. The sooner you start treatment, the sooner you can get back to enjoying your life with vigor and robust health.

The Wellness Way Low Testosterone Treatment

At Wellness Way, we reject the notion that a one size fits all prescription pill is the best way to deal with peoples’ health concerns. We recognize that disease and discomfort are indicators of underlying problems, and at best, pharmaceutical solutions alone can only act as band-aids. What is needed, though, is not to simply cover up the surface of the problem but to root it out from within and free the patient from any lingering repercussions.

Whereas many other low-T clinics offer only Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), we firmly believe that this is not the best approach to increasing your body’s testosterone levels. Unfortunately, TRT comes with a whole host of serious risks. The dangerous potential side effects of TRT include worsening sleep apnea, growth of any preexisting prostate cancer, and acne or other skin irritations.

Instead, Wellness Way offers a holistic approach that will help your body produce more testosterone on its own, without needing to undergo a series of injections. Our treatments are multi-faceted and designed specifically for your needs. Your personalized treatment plan may include potent herbal remedies, chiropractic care–many problems related to the lower lumbar directly affect common issues with libido and erectile dysfunction– deep tissue laser treatment, and more.

Benefits of Going to a Low T Center

Getting to a low T center is the first step back to reclaiming your physical and mental health if you’ve been experiencing the symptoms of low testosterone. When you partner with Wellness Way to start taking control of your testosterone levels, you can expect to experience some or even all of these benefits:

Elevated Mood

Depression, fatigue, mood swings, and irritability are symptoms of low testosterone. When you start getting treatment at a low-T clinic, these symptoms are greatly reduced, and you notice a more balanced, positive outlook on life.

Increased Confidence & Libido

Eliminate the anxiety and stress that many men experience when faced with the uncertainty that they’ll be able to get and maintain an erection during intimate moments. Enjoy the confidence that comes with knowing you are ready and able to perform when the time is right.

Improved Cognitive Ability

Clear away the mental fog and cognitive dullness that is caused by low testosterone. In studies of men over 40, those with higher levels of testosterone have lower instances of Alzheimer’s, better critical thinking skills, and are able to make decisions and solve problems more quickly.

Healthier Body Weight

Your treatment at Wellness Way’s low T center will improve your body’s ability to build muscle, create denser muscles, and improve strength. With higher testosterone, you will feel stronger, more energetic, and have an overall greater sense of vitality.
